This a truly Mind-Bending day! .You have got a brilliant brain! It is constantly making sense of your stupid senses! They are very delicate, complicated and important; it is just that they don't know anything; they just send it all to your brilliant brain to make sense of your senses! This making sense of your senses has a name it is called 'Perception'. When your brain gets perception, wrong that's 'Illusion'! When a magician amazes you it is simply becuse the magician sent your perception one way and reality went another!

The science of Sound

Shhhh. Even when it is quiet, sound is all around us......... And with the high tec measuring equipment that wa are going to use at SciTech uop will take part in a day of audio research where you can measure the speed of sound and see the shape of the sound of the violin as well as finding out what being noisy really means!

Cartography

Well, it is not the study of wagon wheels or shopping trolleys! Cartography is about maps. How to use them, and how to make them. You will be getting into maps in a big way, you will be using GPS satellite equipment as well as land surveying technology to plot a part of our real 3D world onto a 2D map.

Structures

How strong is a newspaper or an egg shell? We don't normally think that they are very strong, but it all depends on how you organise things. With a bit of care they can be made much stronger. We shall be using some clever gadgetry and your brilliant brain to design and build some amazing structures as well as getting you on the front page of a newspaper?!

The Technology Workshop

At SciTech we are always looking and inventing really interesting stuff to make and do. In some years we gather all of them together to make a special SciTech day which doesn't have a theme other than - its really interesting! There are lots of new experiments. But we don't want to spoil the surprise, however, some of the experiments were so much fun we will probably just do them again. We are not saying which ones they are, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was plenty of dry ice and custard

We are pleased to say that we are running our special version of SciTech again this year - Mini/SciTech. Mini/SciTech is for five and six year old children. Although the children will join in with parts of the SciTech programme everyday, they will have their own teachers, helpers and timetable to ensure that they can have all the fun of SciTech safely and at their own pace.
Please Note: Because we firmly belive that the ratio of staff to children is so important and because we do not allow resouces to be overstretched at the expense of quality, the numbers of Mini-SciTech places is strictly limited. This means that these places are th first to fill up. Parents are advised to apply early to avoid the uncertainty of being placed on the waiting list.

Transport from Bolton

Last year, because there were again, sufficient numbers of children coming from Bolton, we ran a coach from Bolton to SciTech in South Manchester, for the second of the two weeks. We are prepared to do this again, if there is sufficient interest. If you are interested in this please fill in the application form and attach a note that indicates your interest and whether or not your booking is dependant on transport.

Once again, we shall be running both Early & Late Clubs
