Find what can happen in an instant. Build your own time measuring devices. Discover what Einstein was thinking (about his aunty!) and find out how many nano-millenia it takes to boil an egg! You will slow time down using high speed video cameras and strobe photography. This exciting day (well 600 micro-years to be more accurate) is packed full of mind blowing experiments, some of which will even explain why the older you get, the faster your birthday comes around!
In the jungle, if you really want to do well, not being somebody else's lunch is a really good step. Find out about camouflage and then GET LOST! I mean, go and hide. Discover how creatures including humans, have special defence tricks. Find out about the science of escape from buildings, boats, aircraft and what to do if school catches fire! - No, the answer is not to shout Yipeee!
This is not for those children who are reluctant to go near the bath in case they might get clean! You'll be using lots of 'soap' to make bubbles of all shapes, sizes and colours; blow bubbles within bubbles, make square bubbles, and lots lots more. You are bound to get some of the soap near you. So BEWARE! Of course, you can make bubbles from other stuff besides soap - Bubble Chocolate!
Well you live in it all your life, so we thought you might like to discover some interesting facts about how your body works! We have a range of experiments for you to do including DNA extraction! There is more action that will involve you and some special body testing equipment too!
Its back but its different! Sometimes we just do stuff because it is interesting. The whole day is spent doing experiments and trying out things just because they are interesting and fun to do. We have loads of ideas and one day won't be long enough so some things will have to be cut - but will that mean we won't be able to do the jumping on custard again?
We are pleased to say that we are running our special version of SciTech again this year - Mini/SciTech. Mini/SciTech is for five and six year old children. Although the children will join in with parts of the SciTech programme everyday, they will have their own teachers, helpers and timetable to ensure that they can have all the fun of SciTech safely and at their own pace.
Please Note: Because we firmly belive that the ratio of staff to children is so important and because we do not allow resouces to be overstretched at the expense of quality, the numbers of Mini-SciTech places is strictly limited. This means that these places are th first to fill up. Parents are advised to apply early to avoid the uncertainty of being placed on the waiting list.
Last year, because there were again, sufficient numbers of children coming from Bolton, we ran a coach from Bolton to SciTech in South Manchester, for the second of the two weeks. We are prepared to do this again, if there is sufficient interest. If you are interested in this please fill in the application form and attach a note that indicates your interest and whether or not your booking is dependant on transport.
